What are the duties of an SBI PO officer?

State Bank of India is one of the biggest banks in the banking sector. Every year number of probationary officers and other special officers are appointed by SBI for the graduates. SBI PO is one of the most preferred exam as it offers officer level job. It is an entry to the bank to become future manager by working in various phases with dedication and continuity.
As SBI PO you are trained to accomplish various banking tasks. During training, SBI PO has to undergo through various practical knowledge of numerous banking functions related to customer services such as passbook printing, account opening and much more, supervision of clerical work, processing loan etc. Main focus of the training is to give us varied exposure beginning from general banking followed by agriculture, SME Loans, Forex, Home Loan sales etc.

SBI PO Work Profile, Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities of SBI PO are as follows:
  • Service to customers-
Probationary officer should learn various services provided by bank to its customers such as opening of an account, issuing ATM Cards, deposits, receipts, loans, cheque books etc.
  • To bring new business-
He or she should have the knowledge of new products launched by bank from time to time and the products which bring business to bank such as fixed deposits, insurance policies, mutual funds, credit cards, etc.
  • Managing cash-
PO should be trained to handle cash and other functions performed by cashier. Bank works on various software to record daily cash transactions, therefore a special training will also be given to PO to deal with such transactions in case of any situation when clerk is not available or there is more workload on cashier desk. PO need to know the activity of ATM in case that particular branch has an ATM attached then his services might be required at any point of time.
  • Clearance of Payment –
PO is given an authority to clear the payments beyond a certain amount. He will be responsible for the payments through cheque, DD, NEFT, RTGS etc. for all such transactions where the amount is more than the required limit.
  • To Maintain Records-
PO is given a responsibility to generate the reports regarding deposits, ledgers, withdrawals etc. to avoid any disparity at the end of the day.
  • To Maintain an official communication
Official communication is an integral part of SBI PO functions. P.O. needs to maintain a systematic record of the official communication with a prompt response of various queries asked by the customers and other departments. As a PO, one has to give a spontaneous and timely response to all of them.
